FAQ's

What makes Tiferes Miriam unique?

Tiferes Miriam is the only school offering a fully integrated, mainstream high school experience combined with modified academics and emotional support. Other programs that place students in self-contained classes within larger schools, create a divide where they feel set apart and disconnected. They are caught between the expectations of their program and the culture of the host school, never fully belonging to either. Mainstreaming in those settings often means students are either not held accountable for their work or left struggling when they can’t keep up—leaving them discouraged and unsupported. In Tiferes Miriam, surrounded by familiar faces and a warm, family-like atmosphere, students quickly feel at home. There are no big crowds or overwhelming situations, and no one is made to feel different. In Tiferes Miriam, every student is valued, every need is met, and every moment is maximized.

Can my child earn a Regents diploma in Tiferes Miriam?

Yes! We have a Regents and non -Regents track. Over 75% of our students graduate with a Regents diploma, and we have a 97% pass rate for those who take our Regents curriculum. Our approach goes beyond simply teaching the material—we provide individualized attention and focus on building essential skills like test-taking strategies, problem-solving, and preparation for future success.

How does Tiferes Miriam provide individualized instruction within a classroom setting?

In skill-based subjects like language arts, math, and computers, students progress at their own pace, allowing us to meet their individual needs and foster effective growth. They can spend more time on challenging concepts while advancing quickly through areas they find easier, without waiting for others. This approach enables more efficient progress overall.

Other subjects are taught in small groups, typically no more than 10 students per grade and often divided into smaller groups of 3 to 5. This ensures personalized attention, allowing teachers to answer questions and keep every student engaged and understanding the material.

How does Tiferes Miriam monitor and track students’ progress?

Students take tests, quizzes, midterms, and finals, just like in any other high school, but these are customized to their level to ensure that hard work leads to success. In skill-based subjects, we track progress through bimonthly staff meetings and standardized assessments conducted two or three times a year. This ensures we are always aware of each student’s growth and can adjust our approach as needed.

How does Tiferes Miriam help students build social skills and confidence?

Confidence develops naturally as students experience academic success, make progress, and see their own growth. Success fosters confidence, which motivates further success, creating a positive cycle. Being with peers who understand and accept them encourages students to form friendships while developing social awareness. Additionally, our extensive extracurricular program promotes teamwork, leadership, and the development of new social skills in a supportive environment.

How does Tiferes Miriam help students discover and develop their talents?

We offer an extensive extracurricular program that includes shabbatons, chagigas, trips, newsletters, performances, G.O., Chessed, Mishmeres, and more. These programs give students leadership opportunities and involve them directly in planning and executing activities. Creative class projects and activities encourage artistic expression, while courses like photography and home economics help students develop new skills and explore their interests.

How does Tiferes Miriam define student success beyond the classroom?

Success goes beyond just fitting in—it’s about thriving. At Tiferes Miriam, we empower our students to maximize their potential and discover what they’re truly capable of. Instead of feeling overlooked or struggling in an environment that doesn’t meet their needs, our girls gain the confidence, skills, and self-awareness to succeed in life.

Our students reintegrate into their communities as capable, self-assured individuals, ready to take on the world with the tools they’ve developed here. They leave knowing they’ve been seen, heard, and valued—not just surviving high school, but truly thriving and prepared for the future.
